No matter what phone you buy, there will come a time when it will get
slow. You can't help it. Your phone's timeframe may vary depending on
'n' number of factors but it will get slow...eventually. Smartphones are
pocket-sized data hogging and data crunching machines. They are doing
this without fail each and every day. Software and app updates are a
necessary evil they must consume in order to stay up to date with the
times. But underneath all this your phone is gradually running out of
steam.
There will be some who would prefer buying a new phone. But
what if you don't want to do that? What if you want to continue with
your same old phone, a little longer? Well, you can.
Here are 7 tech tips that will help you prolong the life of your good old smartphone and keep it running a little longer:
1.
Everyone loves apps. They are just so wonderful. Make your life easier,
and entertaining at the same time. But having too many of them on your
phone isn't very healthy for your phone. You got to know when to stop.
And it's not just about keeping track of your phone memory. Unnecessary
apps are a strict no-no. One they hog space, second they hog your system
resources as well. Ideally you should only keep the apps that you need
and uninstall those that you don't. This includes apps that come
pre-installed on your phone out-of-the-box. If you're tempted to try out
a new app, feel free to install but in case you don't happen to like it
thereafter, uninstall it immediately. Quit the laziness, dear users!
2. Avoid
installing apps from third-party stores and torrent sites. Installing
apps from unverified sources is calling for unnecessary trouble. While
Apple maintains a strict policy against such apps, Google's Android is a
little more lenient in this regard. Whatever be the case it's better
you stick to official app stores for all your app needs. There will be
instances when you'll be tempted to download and install an apk (in case
of Android) from a random file sharing website primarily because it's
free. But in hindsight most of them are breeding sites for malicious
software.
3. Keep track of your system RAM periodically. It
doesn't matter if your phone's a multi-tasking beast with abundance of
RAM. Unnecessary resource hogging isn't required. You just don't need to
prove yourself that you're carrying a hi-fi phone. Stick with the apps
that you're using currently and kill all that you won't. You can always
go back and open them again when the need arises. Keeping your RAM space
free gives your phone room to breathe. You won't want to choke it, do
you?
4. Keep a check on app updates. Automatic updates are
handy, but manual's always better. This way you know what updates are
coming your way at all times. Also you know what's the size and
everything so you'll be aware of how much space they'll be hogging. Take
note that app updates eat up extra space.
5. Be wary of
using a microSD card unless you have no choice. Ideally you should avoid
using one altogether. A microSD card may give you more space but it
also makes your phone slow in the longer run.
6. Avoid
filling internal storage to the brim. This means, possibly delete or
take out the old photos or files that you may no longer access on day to
day basis. An internal storage chip that is almost full has slower, in
some cases, significantly slower read and write speeds.
7. Don't
use live wallpaper or two many widgets because they hog precious
resources like the processing power and battery all the time. Use the
widgets that are necessary but avoid relying on them too much.
