Nigeria busts 15,000 fake HP products in four months, HP Nigeria MD says

Mrs Ify Afe, Managing Director of HP Nigeria, says that Nigeria law enforcement officials have seized over 15,000 HP counterfeit products within four months.
HP says the seizures were some of the major success recorded in the anti-counterfeiting battle underway to make the country a zero tolerance space for pirated products.
Managing Director of the Nigeria unit of the U.S. technology company says its officials in Nigeria in collaboration with Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) seized over 15,000 items passed off as HP brands including fake toners and ink cartridges.
”The rate at which criminally-minded people fake HP products is worrisome. Local officials including the Standard Organization of Nigeria also busted several companies from manufacturing and distributing fake printing supplies for HP printers”, Afe told journalist in a press conference in Lagos where the company also unveiled the new HP Spectre laptop.
According to her, HP is partnering with government agencies in Nigeria to check the activities of counterfeiters in the country. This informed its Anti-Counterfeiting and Fraud (ACF) programme for channel partners and customer protection across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

According to the HP MD, ACF is an initiative to actively protect its customers from purchasing fake and fraudulent goods made available in the marketplace.
Through ACF, HP is also educating its consumers and the general public on how to identify original products that emanate from the technology company.
“Apart from collaborating with government agencies, we also educate members of the public on how to identify fake products. Now our products come with codes that make it possible for our customers to verify the authenticity of a product”, according to the HP Nigeria chief.
She wants companies to buy from HP authorised dealers and to explicitly ask for HP originals. Customers can also call the company’s free Customers Delivery Inspections (CDIs) in case of receiving a delivery of suspicious cartridges, she says.
According to HP Nigeria, these are some steps that buyers can take to to guide against buying fake HP products:

    Step 1

Locate your HP security seal and open your QR code scanner app. If you don’t have a QR code scanner, you can use our HP Sure Supply app.

    Step 2

Use your smartphone’s camera to scan the QR code on the cartridge’s security seal. After your scanner processes the QR code, you’ll see a validation screen from HP.
Also speaking at the event Mr Allison Alassan, Trade Marketing Manager at HP Nigeria introduced the new entrant laptop from the American tech company, the HP Spectre laptop.
According to him the device is  “world’s thinnest laptop” in the form of the Core-i powered 13.3-inch Spectre, with a design that the company said offered proof that it is ”driving innovation faster than its competitor”.

The HP Nigeria exec told journalist that Spectre Laptop was created with a focus on “luxury and artisanal craftsmanship.”
The HP Spectre is 10.4mm thick and weighs in at 2.45lbs, sporting a twin-tone aluminum and carbon fiber chassis with an edge-to-edge Corning Gorilla Glass IPS 1080p display.
The laptop is powered by an Intel
The laptop is powered by an Intel Core i5 or i7 Skylake processor, rather than the significantly slower ultra low-voltage Core M CPU specifically designed for ultra-thin notebooks
HP says that this is made possible by the Spectre’s integration of Intel’s “breakthrough hyperbaric cooling system” which features two ultra-thin fans, a heat-pipe and a copper radiator, allowing the system to not only extract heat but also draw in cool air and direct it over the processor.”
